Roadmap

What is coming, what is being built and what has just arrived. This page reads the project's own list and stays current while the work goes on. See the Release Notes for what each version changed.
Coming in the next releaseBuilt and tested, waiting for the next release.1
Phone polishMap
The first pass from your phone screenshots is built: full-screen Layers and Filters with an easy Close, a short footer, smaller labels and icons, readable panels and a handful of page fixes.
In progressBeing built now.1
Radio bridges for chatsCommunity
Link a chat to an APRS call sign (messages out from your own call sign, replies in) or to a Meshtastic node. APRS is built and opt in with licensing notes; the mesh side is ready on the portal and waits for the mesh gateway. APRS needs a verified license: the call sign is checked against the FCC amateur license data, re-checked weekly, with administrator review and override.
PlannedDesigned and queued, in roughly this order.20
Built to scale and survive a failureHub
Designed so the hub, the MLAT server and the portal can run on more than one machine and share the load. Considered as things are built, and done last unless something needs it sooner.
Discord botCommunity
Alerts in Discord from a bot of the site (needs Marty to create the Discord application and give the site its token). Kiosk mode is built (its own item).
Matrix and the Element app for chatCommunity
Chat and messages move to Matrix so conversations are end-to-end encrypted, with read receipts, typing notices, reactions and notifications. Element Web, themed and framed to look like the site's own chat, signs members in with their site accounts; the built-in chat is replaced. Next big project; needs a host name for Element and the Matrix server.
Mesh owner alertsStations
Tell a node's owner when a router goes quiet or its battery is low.
Mesh channels and QR codesStations
A channel configurator for the Meshtastic app: create private channels, share them with members and groups, with a QR code to scan.
Extend the mesh through our brokerStations
Link separate mesh areas (for example Little Rock and Sheridan) through the site's MQTT broker, without loops; first proved with two real nodes.
Mesh alert and weather channelStations
Warnings and weather station readings pushed to a mesh channel.
Mesh node history and coverage planningStations
Charts of battery, channel use and who hears a node, and where the next router would help most.
Mesh CommunitiesStations
A page, a map and a small site for each local mesh (Little Rock, Northwest Arkansas, Hot Springs and others), edited by its own managers.
Mesh node telemetryStations
Show and list temperature, humidity, pressure and other readings from mesh nodes that share them, with charts on the node page.
Scoped roles for communitiesStations
Roles and permissions that apply inside one community only (a mesh, an APRS group, a repeater club), so each group manages its own page and resources.
Mesh group self-managementStations
A mesh group sets up its own gateway logins, uplinks and downlinks, and sees its own statistics, charts and nodes.
Remote administration of mesh nodesStations
Queue configuration commands for a group's nodes from the site, run by a small bridge program beside a gateway node, with approval and a full audit log; tracks new Meshtastic releases.
Chat and message notificationsCommunity
Browser notifications for new chats, messages and friend requests, even when the site is closed (Web Push), with per-member choices and an installable app.
Share files in chats and messagesCommunity
Send pictures and files in chats and messages, with size and type limits, private to the conversation and covered by backup.
Data retention and thinningPlatform
Admin > Storage: for every growing table, keep full detail for a time, then thin to coarser points, then delete; attachments pruned after a set time; dry run, run log and audit.
Radio bridge in the profile and in every chatCommunity
Show the verified call sign on the profile, a Send to APRS or Mesh button in chats and messages, and a Radio section in My Account.
Forward mesh data to the public Meshtastic serverStations
Members who opt in can have their node's data also shared on the public Meshtastic MQTT server, under its rules, without loops.
End-to-end encryption for chats and messagesCommunity
Encrypted conversations that only the people in them can read, through Matrix and the Element app (decided), with sign-in by the site's own accounts.
Public source code (AGPL)Platform
A public copy of the portal's code under the AGPL on a GitHub organization, published at each release with private infrastructure details left out.
Ideas we likeUnder consideration; no promise yet.1
Phone appPhone App
An installable phone app. Its own item, only if it is ever done.
Recently releasedAlready live. The Release Notes page has the details.160
Air ambulances on the Trauma MapMap
A single switch on the Trauma Map draws every air ambulance helicopter and airplane the network hears, with a details card.
Kiosk displayCommunity
A wall-screen mode (Display menu, /kiosk): chosen pages full screen whose menus and map controls hide after a set time with no input and return with any input, an Exit button, a Setup panel (pages, seconds for each, presets, one page only), the date and time at a chosen corner and size, and ?kiosk=1 on any page.
Space weatherRadio
Radio > Space Weather: NOAA storm scales, K index, solar flux, flare class and a rough HF band guide.
Weather overviewWeather
The Weather overview shows the whole weather setup at a glance: stations, alerts, radar and satellite, earthquakes, rivers, space weather and balloons, with the station map and list below.
Earthquakes layerData
Recent earthquakes in and around Arkansas (the New Madrid zone) from the USGS, drawn by magnitude on the maps, with the time, depth and USGS link on click.
Phone maps: folding top panel and clear popupsMap
On a phone the map's top panel folds to one row of buttons once the map is moved, and popups open clear of the panels; the radiosonde Heard By table has a Sort by choice. Floating buttons no longer cover an open card. The Radiosonde Map shows claimed stations as claimed. My Account pages use the site's folding sections. Admin pages all use folding sections.
Usage history, pickers and filtersAdmin
Admin > Usage keeps request and feed counts by the hour and for all time, with From, To and All Time pickers and filters for the table; a service restart loses nothing.
One merged mapMap
Every map is one page built from one shell, and the Map selector switches the kind of map in place, keeping the view; each type shows only its own layers and filters. We keep it this way rather than putting every filter on one map.
Smoother wind streamsWeather
Wind streams follow a smooth blended wind field and curve with it at every zoom. Wind from a forecast model would improve them further.
Radio overview, repeater position picker and call sign linksRadio
A Radio overview page, a repeater list with locations, a map picker to set a repeater's position, and links that work for any call sign.
Service status checked in the backgroundHub
The status page opens at once and shows the result of checks that run on a schedule; only an administrator can force a run.
Frequencies listRadio
APRS, calling frequencies, FRS, GMRS, MURS, weather radio, marine and mesh frequencies in one list.
Clearer feeder iconsMap
Feeders show as airplane badges that can be seen at state level, on the Feeders page and the Coverage Map.
County Map outline-only lookMap
A look that draws just the thin county lines, the same as the County outlines box on other maps.
Grafana statistics dashboardsWeather
Weather and radiosonde statistics in Grafana with filters, delivered by the normal update.
Call signs, contacts and talkgroupsRadio
One page to look up a call sign, find a DMR contact and browse talkgroups; call sign details show wherever a call sign appears.
DMR time slots and talkgroups on repeatersRadio
Each DMR repeater shows its color code, ID and both time slots with their talkgroups; editors add them from the standard list.
Weather map for any regionMap
The weather map loads only what is in view, anywhere we have data, and never lets labels overlap.
Radiosonde station coverage from real flightsRadiosondes
Each receiving station's coverage outline is built from the flights it really heard, like an ADS-B station's.
Labels that never overlap on every mapMap
Aircraft, weather, APRS, repeater, radiosonde and county map labels never overlap; one shared label engine measures every label as drawn and keeps the most important.
Repeater code plug formats and a review queueRadio
More radio export formats and a queue for imported repeaters waiting for a position.
Weather for any placeWeather
Type a ZIP code, city, airport or address and get a full weather page made from the stations near it, with the National Weather Service forecast and history charts.
Drive times from anywhere on a mapMap
Click the map to pick a place, or search a city or an address, and the nearest hospitals are listed by road drive time and distance (near-ties by trauma level, then services). Drive-time rings of 15, 30, 60 and 90 minutes can be shown for any hospital or place, on the County Map and the other maps. An estimate from the network's own routing server.
One list of location precisionStations
Twelve steps from exact to hidden, the same on every form and setting, written in your own units. Radiosonde stations show to about 0.7 mile until their owner chooses.
Highways map layer and hospital drive-time ringsMap
Interstates, US and state highways as a map layer on every map, and 15, 30 and 60 minute drive-time rings on hospital pages (an estimate from the network's own routing server).
APRS stations and weatherRadio
Digipeaters, gateways, weather stations (CWOP included) and optionally moving stations from the APRS-IS network around Arkansas, with a map, station pages, an APRS weather page and a takedown list.
Repeater directoryRadio
Amateur radio repeaters in every mode from Hearham's open data and Arkansas hams, with a map, reports, sysop claims and member submissions. More layers, coverage estimates and extra sources are still to come.
Phone-friendly pagesSite
Menu, section bars, tables as cards, folded map panels and smoother scrolling on phones.
Balloon landing forecasts and archive historyRadiosondes

Our own forecast data (GFS)Weather
The prediction service reads NOAA's GFS model itself (winds by height and the surface forecast, every six hours, for Arkansas and a wide margin): the balloon predictor flies through our own winds and Weather for a Place has an hour-by-hour model forecast. A separate Tawhiri (our own flight model already exists; the Tawhiri option still calls an outside predictor) and a longer-range model are not built.
Numbered radiosonde forecastsRadio
Forecast flights on the Radiosonde Map are numbered in launch order.
All My StationsAccounts
One page showing everything you run, by service, with a count for each.

Trauma Map and trauma regionsMap
Arkansas' seven trauma regions and two trauma zones on the County Map and on a new simple Trauma Map (Places menu): trauma centers by level, hospitals near the state line, drive times, pictures and websites.
County and hospital pages: websites, pictures and a bigger mapMap
Each county and hospital page links to its website and shows a picture where the map used to be; the map is larger and sits across the bottom of the page.
Classic tar1090 map retiredAircraft
The live map has every feature of the embedded tar1090 map, so the Classic Map menu item is gone (old links open the live map).
Display preferences and saved map views in My AccountAccounts
My Account > Display and Maps holds every choice of the Display menu (theme, units for each service, times, page width, map label and icon sizes, trail options) in folding sections, follows you to every device, and lists your saved map views.
County Map: limit what is shown by state, county or ZIPMap
The County Map's Show on the Map section has a Limit To filter (state, county or ZIP area) that applies to every choice: hospitals, airports, stations, launch sites and the rest.
NWS stations on the Weather MapWeather
Looked at and not built: the National Weather Service's own data service only gives observations for airport stations, which the Airport weather source already shows; its mesonet and RAWS stations reach us through the APRS (CWOP) source.
